El 25 de mayo de 1907, se ha aceptado como la fecha del nacimiento de la profesión contable en México. En este día presentó su examen don Fernando Díez Barroso, mediante el cual recibió el primer título de Contador de Comercio que se expidió en México. Más adelante, por una iniciativa del mismo Díez Barroso los planes de estudio fueron modificados y el título otorgado cambió al de Contador Público.
El Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Públicos, A.C., fue creado hace casi 84 años, por un pequeño grupo de visionarios, quienes decidieron que su primer presidente fuese, precisamente, el primer Contador de Comercio en México, don Fernando Díez Barroso, quien celebraba dieciséis años de haber recibido su título.
De esta manera, la historia de la Contaduría Pública en México está ligada, irremediablemente, a la vida de don Fernando y a la creación de nuestra Institución.Podría entenderse como una omisión en la historia no hablar posiblemente de la primera mujer contadora en México, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, que de acuerdo con testimonios era la encargada de llevar cuenta y razón de las actividades del Convento en donde profesó, además de ser una de las grandes poetisas del mundo.
